One-of-a-kind Spiritual Art pieces

Death and Resurrection and Angels, Oh my!

Deborah has been making Transformation Crosses and Holy Spirit pendants over the past few months for church fundraisers and individual sales.  As she works the clay and gets ready to fashion the piece, sometimes she is stopped in her tracks by what she sees in the clay.

Remember, she is reflecting on the life and death of Jesus as she works with the clay.  She is praying for the world and reflecting on the powerful story of that first Holy Week- the events that unfolded leading to Jesus' death on the cross, and the resurrection that shook the disciples to the core.

Look at the amazing images that emerged. As Deborah was cropping  the photos and taking a closer look at some, new understandings of the images came. Let them speak to your heart.  See what resonates and may these beautiful pieces increase your faith.

Strangely enough, as Deb tried to photograph them with the tripod, the results were less than satisfying.  But when she held the pieces and took the photos, they were much more vibrant.  You'll see Deb's hand holding some of them.

 The Lent/Easter Collection

   Jesus

This is an absolutely stunning image.  Look to the centre near the top and you'll see a bearded face and a dark robe.  To the back is a band of white and gold, signifying a alo effect.  As you hold the medallion, a
gentle energy emanates.

  The Calming of the Water

There is a lot going on in this beautiful medallion.
Swirls of colour, a purple heart to the centre left, and after sitting with it for awhile, Deb got the image of a frothing body of water.

Near the bottom is a red block with what appears to be little figures, suggestive of a boat being tossed about. This is reminiscent of the scene in which Jesus stands to calm the winds and the purple heart a signal of love large enough to break forth upon the tumult.

 The Red haired Angel

This is a whimsical piece and it took Deb awhile to figure out the image.

If you look to the centre at the top, you can see a face surrounded by red hair.  As you expand your gaze a little more, you'll make out a robe and wings...  An angel!

The Garden of Gethsemane

When you look at this active piece it may take a minute to let your eye find the focal point.  At the bottom, in the centre is a figure kneeling, hands resting on a dark object.  Around the figure, there is much activity with the colour bands. You may feel the confusion and emotion.
To Deborah, this is Jesus at the Garden of Gethsemane, wrestling with the reality of the ask before him.  It may be that in the midst of the bands around him, you may be able to pick out an angel coming to minister.

Peter's Denial

For many days, Deborah reflected on this piece.  She knew that it had importance, but what... then it struck her - it was Peter!

In the gospel account, we find Peter warming by the fire, worried sick about Jesus and his arrest.  Jesus had told him that before the cock crowed, he would deny knowing Jesus three times.

The posture of this figure is interesting.  Turning and looking over his shoulder, half hidden, shoulders drooped.  It is Peter saying he doesn't know Jesus, afraid for his own life.

And, you may just make out what looks like rooster in the top center...

 The Angels in the Tomb

Again, this striking medallion had a story, but it was awhile before the meaning came clear.

Deb interprets this as angels in the tomb, holding the light as God worked the magic of resurrection.

Indeed, it could even be the transformed Christ about to break forth.  Let it speak to your heart and see what you receive.

 The Angel and the Women

This is a busy piece. To the right there are three figures standing. To the left is a hole in a brown rocky setting.  In the centre is an angelic figure addressing the figures.
"He is not here, he is risen."

Jesus and Mary in the Garden

The colours on this piece are so subtle that it was only when the image was darkened did it come clear.

The figure on the left, tall and in white robes is addressing another figure to the right.  Deb got chills.  At countless funerals she has read the resurrection account from John.

Mary Magdalene encounters the Risen Christ but in the light, supposes him the be the gardener.  As recognition dawns, she cries," Rabboni!" a familiar word for teacher.  She sees the risen Christ.

 The Risen Christ

The figure in the centre is surrounded by white light and gold, stepping forward.  Is this Jesus coming into the Upper Room?

The Risen Christ - Sharing breakfast

There are several post-resurrection accounts where Jesus would show up and share time with his friends.  As you look to the left you will see a figure in a cloak, surrounded by white light.  He is reaching to a fire at the bottom centre of the piece.

There is a story of Jesus meeting his friends as they fished.  He stayed and they shared a meal.  What do you see in this medallion?

 Death and Resurrection

This medallion is not for sale.  I offer it for you to reflect upon and feel the mystical exchange at work in this piece.
The angel carrying off the figure and the other figure below half-kneeling, arms back in a posture of submission.
Is this the same figure and their adventure to the Other Side? Is it two people - one dead and one left to grieve?
Is it Jesus lifted to Heaven - only to be restored as the swirl of white light swoops back to the earthly figure... What comes to you?
